
UT MARTIN WOMEN’S HOOPS HEADS TO VEGAS FOR PAIR OF GAMES IN HOLIDAY HOOPS CLASSIC

The University of Tennessee at Martin women's basketball team will put the final touches on its non-conference schedule when traveling to the Holiday Hoops Classic at South Point Arena in Las Vegas on Dec. 20-21. The Skyhawks will begin the invitational with a matchup against Akron on Monday, Dec. 20 (4:30 p.m. CST) before facing off against another MAC member Bowling Green on Tuesday, Dec. 21 (7 p.m. CST). All games will be broadcast on FloHoops.
The Skyhawks (3-7) are looking to snap a five-game losing streak in which has spanned nearly a full calendar month after last coming away with a victory on Nov. 20th. UT Martin has struggled offensively, averaging just 46.2 points per game during that span while shooting 32.7 percent from the field.
UT Martin showed signs of coming out of its offensive slump in its most recent outing by equaling its highest scoring output over the past few weeks while shooting 40.7 percent from the field and placing three players in double figures. Juniors Paige Pipkin (16 points, five rebounds) and Kyannah Grant (15 points) led the team offensively while freshman Shae Littleford scored a career-high 10 points off the bench.
Akron (3-3) enters the field having lost three of its last four games – including a 93-54 setback to Michigan its last time out. The Zips feature one player averaging in double figures with Jordyn Dawson pacing the squad in nearly every statistical category with 15.6 points, 6.2 rebounds, 3.2 assists and 3.0 steals per game. Reagan Bass (8.3 ppg, 5.5 rpg) and Lonasia Brewer (7.0 ppg, 3.8 rpg) rank as the team's second and third respective scorers.
Bowling Green (3-4) is looking to build upon back-to-back wins, including a big 100-48 victory over Notre Dame (Ohio) most recently. The Falcons are coming off a deep run in the 2021 Postseason WNIT and feature a pair of double-figure scorers in Morgan Sharps (13.6 ppg) and Zoe Miller (11.1 ppg) to lead a balanced scoring offense which averaged 75.6 points per game.
UT Martin is 0-1 against the tournament field in its first appearance in the Holiday Hoops Classic. The Skyhawks and Zips have never squared off while Bowling Green won the lone previous matchup back in 2007.
