UT MARTIN WOMEN’S HOOPS SET TO HOST ILLINOIS STATE IN HOME DEBUT

The University of Tennessee at Martin women's basketball team will make its home debut on Saturday, Nov. 20 when playing host to Missouri Valley Conference foe Illinois State. Tipoff from the Kathleen and Tom Elam Center is scheduled for 2 p.m. and will be broadcast on ESPN+.
The contest serves as a rematch of last year's season finale for both teams as UT Martin and Illinois State met in the consolation finals of the WNIT Memphis Regional in Collierville. In a game which featured eight ties and four lead changes, UT Martin scratched out the 64-59 victory. The Skyhawks made history with the win by becoming the first team in program and Ohio Valley Conference history to record multiple victories in a single postseason.
The Skyhawks (2-2) enter the contest fresh of a lengthy four-game road swing which saw an appearance in the WNIT Preseason Classic and a true road matchup at No. 10 Louisville. UT Martin dropped its road contests to Kansas State (44-30) and Louisville (62-30) while picking up wins over North Carolina A&T (58-40) and Western Kentucky (63-47). During that stretch, the Skyhawks held their first three opponents below 45 points while limiting them to just 29.8 percent from the floor.
Tasked with the challenge of replacing 70 percent of the team's offensive output from last season, the Skyhawks have seen three different players lead them in scoring in the first four games. Graduate transfer Holly Forbes sits as the team's leading scorer after earning OVC Newcomer of the Week honors earlier in the week, averaging 12.0 points and 7.5 rebounds per game. Junior guard Paige Pipkin ranks second on the team with 10.3 points and 4.5 rebounds per game while leading the team in scoring twice. Freshman wing Hayley Harrison has also been impressive, tallying 9.0 points per game – including a career-high 17 points against Western Kentucky on Monday.
Illinois State (1-2) is coming off the program's first postseason appearance in eight years while returning nine players from last year's squad. The Redbirds boast two scorers averaging in double figures offensively, led by Maya Wong (12.3 ppg) and Juliunn Redmond (10.3 ppg). Meanwhile, DeAnna Wilson is averaging 9.3 points and 5.7 rebounds per game to round out the squad's top offensive threats.
Saturday's matchup marks the seventh meeting between the two programs in series history with UT Martin holding a 4-2 advantage. This is just the second visit for Illinois State to Martin, with the last matchup coming back on Feb. 11, 1976 as UT Martin picked up a narrow 89-85 victory.
