MARTIN, Tenn. – A season-long five-match home stretch for the University of Tennessee at Martin volleyball squad concludes on Tuesday, Oct. 12 when the Skyhawks host Ohio Valley Conference rival Southeast Missouri at 6 p.m.
Winners of six matches in a row and nine of its last 10 decisions, UT Martin (10-10, 6-1 OVC) has seized sole possession of first place in the OVC standings. Dating back to last season, UT Martin has won six consecutive matches inside Skyhawk Fieldhouse – the program's longest such streak since 2011.
The Skyhawks will go for their first season sweep over Southeast Missouri since 2015 as UT Martin defeated the Redhawks in five sets (25-23, 25-20, 22-25, 23-25, 15-13) on Sept. 29. Logan Wallick (2.89 kills per set on a team-best .338 hitting percentage) and Baillie Kearns (team-high 2.78 digs per set) also led UT Martin to a pair of victories over the weekend.
The Skyhawks rank atop the OVC in blocks (2.39 per set) while Zoe Merriweather's 1.30 blocks-per-set average is the best mark in the league. UT Martin has rejected a league-high 3.21 blocks per set in OVC play, boasting the top two blockers in the league (Merriweather at 1.65 blocks per set, Scanlon at 1.39 blocks per set).
Since their five-set loss to the Skyhawks on Sept. 29, the Redhawks (14-5, 5-2 OVC) have reeled off four straight sweeps. The latter two occurred last weekend at Eastern Illinois as Zoey Beasley led the way with 25 kills (4.17 per set) on a .404 hitting percentage. Claire Ochs handed out 9.83 assists per set for a Southeast Missouri offense that hit .229 in the pair of wins while Megan Harris was responsible for nine service aces (1.50 per set).
