MARTIN, Tenn. – Coming off its most efficient offensive performance of the season, the University of Tennessee at Martin men's basketball team looks for the second straight win of its homestand against Eastern Illinois on Thursday, Jan. 28. Tipoff time is set for 8 p.m., following the conclusion of the women's basketball game.
The Skyhawks set or equaled season-best efforts in field goal percentage (.500), three-point field goals made (10), three-point field goal percentage (.556), assists (15) and steals (10) during Tuesday's 69-66 triumph over Southeast Missouri.
Jaron Williams (20 points) and Vinnie Viana (12) each tossed in career-high scoring tallies on Tuesday. Ajani Kennedy also pumped in all of his 13 points in the second half - including the go-ahead jumper with 1:23 remaining that capped off a personal 8-0 run for the junior forward from Moreno Valley, Calif.
UT Martin (4-9, 2-7 Ohio Valley Conference) is looking to extend its home success against the Panthers, as the Skyhawks are 16-9 all-time against Eastern Illinois inside the Kathleen and Tom Elam Center. UT Martin has won five of the last seven home contests in the series, although three of those have gone into overtime. That includes last season's 80-79 triumph as Eman Sertovic set career-highs in scoring (14 points), three-point field goals made (four), assists (four) and minutes played (45).
Eastern Illinois (5-11, 2-7 OVC) enters the game on a six-game losing skid after an 87-74 home setback to SIUE on Tuesday. Down to seven players because of COVID-19 protocols for the second straight game, the Panthers shot 53.4 percent from the floor but struggled from three-point range (21.1 percent) and at the charity stripe (44.4 percent).
Marvin Johnson (career-high 28 points) and Josiah Wallace (20) each had big nights against SIUE. Johnson ranks fourth in the OVC with 17.6 points per game in league play while Wallace has averaged 22.4 points per contest on 56 percent shooting in five career games against the Skyhawks.
Chris Brinkley will provide the call on ESPN+ as well as WCMT Radio 1410 AM/100.5 FM. For access to those links, as well as live stats, visit the top of the webpage.
