
SAKURAI GOES UNBEATEN BUT UT MARTIN TENNIS FALLS 5-2 AT CHATTANOOGA

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – Senior Mizuki Sakurai compiled a pair of victories today for the University of Tennessee at Martin tennis team but the Skyhawks were defeated by a 5-2 margin at Chattanooga.
Sakurai helped UT Martin claim the doubles point this afternoon, teaming up with Sina Albersmeier at No. 3 to officially clinch the first point awarded after a 6-3 triumph. Moments later in singles play, the Tokyo, Japan native outlasted her opponent at No. 5, collecting a gritty 1-6, 7-5, 6-2 come-from-behind victory.
In doubles, Amelia Campbell and Jule Streif set the tone early with a 6-3 win at No. 1. The Skyhawks' No. 2 pair of Daphne Pratt and Aziza Aubin also competed throughout but fell 6-3.
Albersmeier nearly came away with a singles victory for UT Martin at No. 4 but was defeated 6-1, 7-6 (7-2). Aubin represented the Skyhawks at No. 3, falling by a 6-3, 6-4 margin. At No. 2, Streif battled but fell 6-4, 6-3 while Pratt was defeated 6-4, 6-1 at No. 1. Also taking part in singles action was sophomore Jillian Niedzialowski, who fell 6-2, 6-0 in the No. 6 slot.
UT Martin goes back on the road next weekend when it travels to Southeastern Conference opponent Missouri for a pair of matches on Saturday, Jan. 30. The matches will begin at 9 a.m. and 1 p.m.
