MARTIN, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee at Martin men's basketball squad returns to the road on Thursday, Jan. 21 when it heads to Ohio Valley Conference rival Eastern Kentucky. Tipoff time is scheduled for 7 p.m. CST.
This marks the fourth consecutive season that the Skyhawks (3-7, 1-5 OVC) have played in McBrayer Arena. In fact, UT Martin has played in Richmond nine times since the 2009-10 season due to a flipped OVC schedule and a visit to Eastern Kentucky during the 2015 CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament quarterfinals. Three of the Skyhawks' seven all-time victories in Richmond have come since 2015 (by an average of 3.3 points per win).
Thursday's matchup showcases two of the league's best frontcourt performers in UT Martin's Cameron Holden and Eastern Kentucky's Tre King. In OVC games, Holden ranks third with an 18.8 points per game scoring average and second with 9.5 rebounds per contest. Meanwhile, reigning OVC Player of the Week King ranks second in scoring (17.6 points per game) and rebounding (8.0 per game) overall.
Holden stole the show in the Skyhawks' last outing - a 79-57 home setback against Murray State on Saturday. In that game, the 6-5, 200-pound junior amassed 20 points and a career-best 16 rebounds for his third double-double in OVC play. His 11 offensive boards against the Racers are tied for the most by any player against a NCAA Division I opponent during the 2020-21 season.
Off to their best start since the 1946-47 campaign, the Colonels (12-2, 6-1 OVC) have reeled off seven consecutive victories and entered the week ranking first nationally in steals (12.1 per game) and turnover margin (+7.71). They also top the OVC in scoring offense (82.1 points per contest) and three-point field goals made (8.9 per game).
Wendell Green, Jr. has been a freshman sensation for Eastern Kentucky, as he leads the OVC in assists (5.3 per outing) while ranking seventh in the conference with 15.1 points per contest.
The game will be streamed live on ESPN+ while Chris Brinkley will call all the action locally on WCMT Radio 1410 AM/100.5 FM. Those links, as well as a link for live stats, are located above.
