MARTIN, Tenn. – University of Tennessee at Martin women's basketball star Chelsey Perry has been named Madness National Mid-Major Player of the Week after an exceptional week of performances against Ohio Valley Conference rivals Austin Peay and Murray State.
Perry added yet another accolade to a decorated season of accomplishments with her national honor after a spectacular week which featured a pair of 30-point performances, two double-doubles, shattering a 31-year program record, moving up the program's all-time scoring list and becoming the nation's leading scorer.
The Middleton, Tenn. native tallied 68 points, 22 rebounds, six blocks, two steals and two assists in the two Skyhawk victories. She averaged 34.0 points, 11.0 rebounds and 3.0 blocks per game while shooting 46.8 percent from the field and 84.6 percent from the free throw line. She tallied 32 points and 11 rebounds along with two rebounds against Austin Peay while following it up with 36 points, 11 rebounds and four blocks against Murray State.
With the big weekend, Perry broke the program's long-standing all-time block record of 203 which stood since 1989 with her first block against Murray State and now ranks fifth in OVC history. She also brought her career scoring total up to 1,739 points which jumped her from sixth up to fourth place in UT Martin history. Additionally, Perry has now scored at least 20 points in all eight games this season and is one of just two players nationally to have scored 20 points or more in each of her team's contests while leading the country in scoring with 29.3 points per game.
Perry and the Skyhawks return to action on Thursday, Jan. 21 with a road matchup at Eastern Kentucky. Tipoff is scheduled for 4 p.m. CST.
