
HOPKINS GARNERS ECAC FLAT RIDER OF THE YEAR AND ALL-CONFERENCE HONORS

DANBURY, Conn. – The Eastern College Athletic Conference unveiled its equestrian major awards and all-conference performers today as the University of Tennessee at Martin junior Abbie Hopkins racked up the hardware.
Hopkins was named ECAC Rider of the Year in flat and also secured a spot on the four-member All-ECAC squad in the same event. This marks the second postseason accolade in less than a week for Hopkins, who was also named a National Collegiate Equestrian Association All-American second team honoree in flat on March 27.
Today's recognition marks the latest in a long string of ECAC accolades for Hopkins during the 2019-20 campaign. The Seekonk, Mass. native captured a trio of ECAC Flat Rider of the Week awards (Sept. 25, Nov. 19, Feb. 25) and also earned ECAC Fences Rider of the Week honors on two separate occasions (Sept. 25, Feb. 25).
Hopkins dialed up a team-best eight flat wins in 11 tries this season, additionally pacing the Skyhawks in scoring average (77.1) and MOP's (three). Her most notable performances came on Oct. 10 against South Dakota State (MOP ride of 77 points), Feb. 21 against SUNY New Paltz (MOP performance of 78 points), Feb. 29 against No. 6 Georgia (MOP effort of 83 points) and in the Feb. 29 season finale against Delaware State (season-high 89 points).
On the season, Hopkins recorded at least a flat score of 75 points in eight different competitions, breaking the 80-point plateau four times. She won four head-to-head matchups in a row from Sept. 20 through Nov. 15 – defeating members from four ranked squads in the process – and wrapped up the year with four victories in her last five outings.
