
UT MARTIN TENNIS FALLS IN PAIR OF MATCHES AGAINST UAB AND ALABAMA-HUNTSVILLE

MARTIN, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee at Martin tennis squad took part in a pair of matches on Friday, falling 4-0 at UAB in the morning before falling in a tough 4-3 heartbreaker at Alabama-Huntsville in the afternoon.
On the day, the Skyhawks produced three singles wins and two doubles victories. UT Martin went a perfect 3-0 at the No. 4 through No. 6 singles slots and also tacked on doubles wins at No. 1 and No. 2.
Against UAB, the Skyhawks nearly broke through for early momentum in doubles. UT Martin's No. 1 team of Daphne Pratt and Amelia Campbell fell 7-5 while Jule Streif and Sina Albersmeier put up a fight at No. 3 with a slim 7-6 setback.
In singles, Sina Albersmeier took the first set 7-6 but the match went unfinished. Aziza Aubin barely fell (7-5) in the opening set at No. 4 while Sakurai was locked in a 5-5 tie in the second set at No. 5. However, those matches went unfinished as the Blazers improved to 9-4 following wins at the first three singles positions.
Later on in the afternoon, UT Martin's No. 2 doubles tandem of Aubin and Sakurai brought home a 6-3 triumph but Alabama-Huntsville took the other two doubles points.
The Skyhawks received strong play on the back end of the singles lineup as Aubin (7-5, 7-5 at No. 4), Sakurai (6-3, 6-1 at No. 5) and Albersmeier (6-3, 6-2 at No. 6) each notched victories.
Alabama-Huntsville claimed each of the top three singles decisions, including a heartbreaking 6-4, 4-6, 6-3 setback at No. 3 that capped off the Chargers' comeback.
UT Martin concludes the nonconference portion of its schedule on Saturday, March 7 when it visits Birmingham, Ala. for a 10 a.m. matchup against Samford.
