BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The University of Tennessee at Martin tennis team put the finishing touches on a grueling road swing today, falling by a 7-0 decision to Samford.

Playing their third match in a little over 24 hours, the Skyhawks battled through a pair of three-set singles decisions but could not top the Bulldogs in either matchup. Mizuki Sakurai battled at the No. 5 position before falling 3-6, 6-0, 1-0 (7) while Sina Albersmeier's comeback attempt at No. 6 came up just short with a 6-0, 3-6, 1-0 (1) setback.

Amelia Campbell almost forced a tiebreaking third-set at No. 2 singles but was handed a 6-2, 7-5 setback. Jule Streif (6-1, 6-4 at No. 3), Daphne Pratt (6-1, 6-1 at No. 1) and Aubin (6-1, 4-0 at No. 4) also competed for UT Martin in singles today.

In doubles, the No. 3 tandem of Streif and Albersmeier were in the heat of a battle (5-4) but the match went unfinished after Samford was able to win at No. 1 and No. 2.

The Skyhawks open their eight-match Ohio Valley Conference schedule at home next week, hosting Southeast Missouri for a 2 p.m. showdown on Friday, March 13.
