UT MARTIN TENNIS STARTS CONFERENCE PLAY WITH SPRING HOME OPENER AGAINST SOUTHEAST MISSOURI ON FRIDAY

MARTIN, Tenn. – For the first time in nearly five months, the University of Tennessee at Martin tennis team will play in front of its home crowd as the Skyhawks begin their Ohio Valley Conference season against Southeast Missouri on Friday, March 13. The match is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.
Friday will mark UT Martin's first time competing on its home courts since the Skyhawk Fall Invite on Oct. 24-25. All of UT Martin's first 10 matches of the spring semester have been held at road or neutral sites.
The Skyhawks are 26-3 all-time against Southeast Missouri but will look for revenge after the Redhawks claimed a 5-2 victory last season in Cape Girardeau. UT Martin junior Amelia Campbell is undefeated in her career against Southeast Missouri (1-0 singles, 1-0 doubles) while Mizuki Sakurai is responsible for a singles victory against the Redhawks in her Skyhawk career.
UT Martin (1-9) was continually battle-tested during its nonconference slate as the trio of Campbell, Sakurai and Sina Albersmeier have collected a team-high three singles wins. Sakurai also owns a team-best three doubles victories this spring.
On the season, freshman Aziza Aubin has tallied a team-high eight singles wins while Campbell and Daphne Pratt have accumulated seven doubles victories to lead the Skyhawks.
Southeast Missouri – coached by former UT Martin standout and All-OVC honoree Mary Beth Gunn – brings a 4-6 overall record into the OVC opener on Friday. Romana Tarajova and Kseniya Zonova were each named to the OVC's Preseason Top-10 list and lead the squad with 11 doubles wins this season. Vivian Lai has also secured 11 doubles wins and a team-best 16 singles victories in 2019-20.
