
UT MARTIN TENNIS SCORES FIRST WIN OF WILLIAMS ERA WITH 6-1 TRIUMPH AT ALABAMA A&M

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – University of Tennessee at Martin head coach Caitlyn Williams received the first head coaching victory of her young career today as the Skyhawks flew past Alabama A&M by a 6-1 margin.
UT Martin won its first match of the 2020 campaign behind a strong collective effort. The Skyhawks took the doubles point and also emerged victorious in five of the six singles matchups.
Sina Albersmeier and Jule Streif joined forces at No. 3 doubles to claim the first win of the day, posting a 6-1 victory. Moments later, UT Martin clinched the doubles point via a 6-2 win by Aziza Aubin and Mizuki Sakurai at No. 2.
Sakurai gave the Skyhawks early momentum in singles, quickly dialing up a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 5. Streif followed with a 6-3, 6-3 victory at No. 3 before Aubin came away with the clincher at No. 4 with a 6-3, 7-6 win. Albersmeier (6-2, 6-3) and Amelia Campbell (1-6, 7-6, 13-11) followed with victories at No. 6 and No. 2, respectively, to put the finishing touches on a successful outing.
UT Martin returns to action next week with a 10 a.m. matchup at Tennessee on Friday, Feb. 14. It will be a homecoming of sorts for Williams, who was born in Knoxville and starred for the Lady Vols program from 2011-15.
