
SKYHAWK TENNIS BATTLES BUT FALLS 4-0 AT NATIONALLY RANKED TENNESSEE

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee at Martin tennis team continued its challenging road start to the 2020 campaign today, falling by a 4-0 margin at No. 22 ranked Tennessee.
Today marked a return to the alma mater and hometown of first-year Skyhawk head coach Caitlyn Williams, who was a nationally ranked doubles player for the Lady Vols from 2011-15. Tennessee (6-1) claimed the opening doubles point and also came away with wins at No. 2, No. 4 and No. 3 singles.
The UT Martin team of Sina Albersmeier/Jule Streif fell 6-1 at No. 3 while Amelia Campbell/Daphne Pratt (6-2) and Aziza Aubin/Mizuki Sakurai (6-3) were defeated at No. 1 and No. 2, respectively.
In singles action, Campbell fell 6-1, 6-0 at No. 2 before Aubin was outlasted (6-1, 6-4) in the No. 4 slot. Competing in the No. 3 position, Streif was defeated by a 6-3, 6-1 margin to wrap up the match.
Albersmeier was on the verge of claiming a win at No. 6 (up 6-0, 4-2) while Pratt (down 6-3, 1-1 at No. 1) and Sakurai (down 6-1, 5-3 at No. 5) were also in the middle of their singles matchups before the match-clinching point occurred.
The Skyhawks resume their road-heavy nonconference portion of the 2020 schedule next week when they travel to Murfreesboro, Tenn. to take on Middle Tennessee (Friday, Feb. 21) and Chattanooga (Sunday, Feb. 23).
