MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee at Martin tennis squad competed throughout but was bested by Middle Tennessee by a 5-0 margin today at the Adams Tennis Complex.
The Skyhawks (1-5) were close in a pair of doubles matchups but the host Blue Raiders took the opening point. UT Martin's No. 1 tandem of Amelia Campbell and Daphne Pratt pushed their opponents to the limit before falling by a slim 7-5 margin. Middle Tennessee also claimed the No. 2 position by a 6-2 score over Aziza Aubin and Mizuki Sakurai.
Meanwhile, Sina Albersmeier and Jule Streif were tied at 6-6 in the No. 3 slot but the match went unfinished after the Blue Raiders clinched the first point of the match.
In singles, UT Martin displayed improved scores but was eventually outlasted. Campbell was defeated by a 6-4, 6-2 margin at No. 2 while Aubin fought but fell 6-3, 6-3 at No. 4. Sakurai (2-6, 2-6) and Streif (5-7, 3-6) left it all on the court but were defeated at No. 5 and No. 3, respectively.
Pratt won her opening set (6-2, 1-5) at No. 1 and Albersmeier (4-6, 4-4) was also in prime position for an opportunity to win at No. 6 but both of their matchups were called once Middle Tennessee clinched the match.
UT Martin resumes its two-match in three-day schedule in Murfreesboro on Sunday, Feb. 23 when it takes on another in-state foe – Chattanooga – at 9 a.m.
