
CAMPBELL SECURES SINGLES WIN BUT SKYHAWK TENNIS DROPS 6-1 DECISION TO CHATTANOOGA

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Junior Amelia Campbell earned her second dual victory of the spring in singles action but the University of Tennessee at Martin tennis team fell by a score of 6-1 to Chattanooga in a neutral site matchup.
Playing in the No. 3 position for the first time this season, Campbell rose to the occasion with a convincing 6-4, 6-1 triumph over Polina Goloputova. The London, England native now owns four singles wins during the 2019-20 campaign.
Mizuki Sakurai came close to adding another singles victory for the Skyhawks. Competing at No. 6, she won the second set but was outlasted in the tiebreaking third set by a 6-2, 1-6, 6-2 margin.
Slotted at No. 4 singles for UT Martin was Aziza Aubin, who was defeated 6-4, 6-2. Jule Streif (6-2, 6-2 at No. 2), Sina Albersmeier (6-1, 6-2 at No. 5) and Daphne Pratt (6-0, 6-2 at No. 1) completed the Skyhawk lineup during the singles competition.
The match began with Chattanooga tallying the doubles points after identical 6-2 wins at both No. 1 and No. 2. UT Martin's No. 3 team of Albersmeier and Streif were ahead by a 5-4 margin when the Mocs officially clinched the opening point. The Skyhawks trotted out the No. 1 tandem of Campbell/Pratt and the No. 2 pair of Aubin/Sakurai.
UT Martin rounds out its nonconference schedule with a three-day trip through the state of Alabama during Spring Break week. The Skyhawks take on UAB on March 5, Alabama-Huntsville on March 6 and Samford on March 7.
