DANBURY, Conn. – Kelby Kane, a sophomore at the University of Tennessee at Martin, was identified as the Eastern College Athletic Conference Rider of the Week in flat, the league office announced today.
Kane becomes the fourth Skyhawk to earn ECAC Rider of the Week honors in 2019-20. She joins Abbie Hopkins (flat on Sept. 25; fences on Sept. 25; flat on Nov. 19), Tess Baumann (horsemanship on Sept. 25; reining on Sept. 25; reining on Oct. 15) and Devon Woods (horsemanship on Oct. 15) as UT Martin has combined for eight such awards this season.
Hailing from Lexington, Ky., Kane soared over the weekend as the Skyhawks took on No. 6 Fresno State and UC Davis on back-to-back days in Fresno, Calif. She generated flat MOP accolades in both competitions, beginning with an 82-point effort at Fresno State. She added a 79-point performance against UC Davis, winning both of her head-to-head matchups by an average margin of 4.0 points per competition.
Kane has shown remarkable consistency during her sophomore campaign, registering a team-high 76.9 scoring average in flat. She is responsible for three of the team's four MOP's in that event, reeling off four total victories – all of which have occurred in UT Martin's last five outings.
