UT MARTIN TRACK AND FIELD CONTINUES STRONG START TO SEASON AT PITTSBURG STATE INVITATIONAL

PITTSBURG, Kansas – The University of Tennessee at Martin track and field squads competed in its fourth meet of the indoor season at the Pittsburg State Invitational at the Robert W. Plaster Center on Saturday with numerous personal bests in a record-setting field.
With a loaded meet which featured over 1,500 athletes representing 65 men's and women's indoor track and field squads, the Skyhawks left their own mark in several highly contested events.
The Skyhawks posted strong performances in the men's 5k. Senior Ryan Ford led all athletes to an individual title with a PR time of 14:37.13. Joining Ford in the top-10 was Alex Schell who finished eighth and posted a PR with a time of 14:57.22. The duo of Tim Dye (15:33.56) and Daniel Smith (15:36.65 also posted PRs in the event. On the women's side, it was junior Alexis Grandys who posted a PR en route to a runner-up finish at 17:10.15.
Sticking with distance events, freshman Cole Davis recorded a PR of his own in the men's 3k with a time of 8:55.52. Then in the men's mile, sophomore Luke McNair won his heat with a PR of 4:23.37 while junior Faith Kiprotich (5:21.78) and freshman Taylor Roy (5:28.96) posted respective PRs in the women's mile.
Meanwhile in the women's 800m, senior Agok Ayuen finished third in her heat with a time of 2:18.2.
In the sprint events, senior David Little recorded a new PR in the 60m dash at 7.04 seconds while Myann Davidson also posted a PR in the women's 60m dash with a time of 7.93 seconds.
Wrapping up the sprint highlights was sophomore Anndrea Chester securing a PR of her own in the women's 60m hurdles at 9.24 seconds.
In field events, freshman Corey Smith posted a season-best in the high jump with a distance of 1.85m.
UT Martin will take a week off before returning to action in the team's final primer before the Ohio Valley Conference Indoor Championship at the Hoosier Hills Invite hosted by Indiana on Friday, Feb. 14.
