
UT MARTIN WOMEN’S BASKETBALL LOOKS TO RETURN TO OVC ACTION AT JACKSONVILLE STATE ON WEDNESDAY

The University of Tennessee at Martin women's basketball team looks to close out the 2020 calendar year with an Ohio Valley Conference matchup at Jacksonville State on Wednesday, Dec. 30. Tipoff from Pete Mathews Coliseum is tentatively scheduled for 4:30 p.m. and will be broadcast on ESPN+.
The Skyhawks (2-1, 1-0 OVC) return to action after another lengthy 12-day layoff, playing just their fourth game in the last 25 days. UT Martin leads the league by shooting 46.3 percent from the field while its opponents shoot just 39.8 percent this season. The Skyhawks also ranks amongst league leaders in assists per game (15.7), fewest turnovers (52), free throw percentage (70.4) and three-point field goal percentage (37.0).
UT Martin is led offensively by reigning OVC Player of the Year and 10-time OVC Player of the Week Chelsey Perry. Perry ranks second nationally with 28.3 points per game while also averaging 7.3 rebounds per game. The senior forward enters the contest with 199 career blocks and needs just five blocks to become the program's all-time leaders. Sophomore point guard Seygan Robins ranks second on the team with 9.3 points per game while her 4.7 assists per game lead the league.
UT Martin head coach Kevin McMillan posted his 220th career victory in the win over Southeast Missouri in the Skyhawks last contest. McMillan ranks as the program's all-time wins leader and the league's active wins leader. Jacksonville State is led by head coach Rick Pietri who is 107-106 in his eight seasons at the helm of the Gamecocks.
Jacksonville State (3-2, 0-1 OVC) also had to endure a lengthy break in action, last seeing the court on Dec. 16 when picking up a 63-46 home victory over Samford. The Gamecocks have been perfect this season at The Pete, winning all three contests against Georgia Southern, New Orleans and Samford with an average margin of victory of 15.3 points.
The Gamecocks are led offensively by Yamia Johnson with 16.6 points per game while Taylor Hawks and Imari Martin both provide the scoring balance with 8.0 points per game. Jessie Day leads the team with 6.2 rebounds per game while Hawks' 3.8 assists per game pace the squad.
Wednesday's outing marks the 39th meeting between the two programs in a series which dates back to 1983. UT Martin holds a narrow 21-17 lead in the overall series history but has dominated the matchup as of late, winning the last 13 meetings.
