
SKYHAWK STUDENT-ATHLETES SET NEW DEPARTMENTAL RECORD WITH 3.28 GRADE POINT AVERAGE FOR FALL 2020 SEMESTER

MARTIN, Tenn. – For the second straight semester, the University of Tennessee at Martin student-athletes have shattered a record for Grade Point Average as the Skyhawks combined for a 3.28 GPA this past fall.
Overall, 280 UT Martin student-athletes garnered Athletic Director's Honor Roll status for the Fall 2020 semester, recognizing those who compile at least a 3.0 GPA. Overall, 784 Skyhawk student-athletes have earned Athletic Director's Honor Roll accolades since the list was initiated in the Fall of 2019.
"Our student-athletes continue to amaze me with another record-setting semester in the classroom," UT Martin athletic director Kurt McGuffin said. "As we navigate through the daily challenges that this year has presented, our student-athletes powered through and carried over their academic success from last spring. We send out congratulations to our student-athletes, coaches and athletic academic staff for their leadership this fall."
A total of 59 Skyhawks accumulated a perfect 4.0 Grade Point Average during the 2020 fall semester. The UT Martin equestrian squad boasted the most 4.0 GPA student-athletes with 11 as all 14 of the Skyhawk sports programs produced at least one student-athlete with an unblemished 4.0 GPA.
The UT Martin football team was responsible for the most Athletic Director's Honor Roll recipients, placing 45 student-athletes on the prestigious list. Equestrian (38), cross country/track and field (32), baseball (30) and rodeo (27) rounded out the top-five Skyhawk programs.
Eleven UT Martin sport programs tallied a team GPA at 3.0 or higher this past semester. The Skyhawk golf program's 3.69 team GPA barely edged out the tennis team's 3.68 GPA for the best mark out of all UT Martin teams. The Skyhawk volleyball team (3.56) also finished with a GPA above 3.5 during the fall.
