The defending Ohio Valley Conference regular season champion University of Tennessee at Martin women's basketball team will travel to the defending OVC Tournament champion Southeast Missouri on Friday, Dec. 18 in a rematch of last year's title showdown and serve as both teams league opener. Tipoff from the Show Me Center in Cape Girardeau, Mo. is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. and will be broadcast on ESPN+.
The Skyhawks (1-1, 0-0 OVC) look to defend their program's sixth regular season title from 2019-20, joining fellow banners from 1998-99, 2011-12, 2013-14, 2014-15 and 2015-16. Under the direction of three-time OVC Coach of the Year Kevin McMillan, UT Martin has posted a 143-43 record against league opponents in the regular season.
UT Martin is led by reigning OVC Player of the Year Chelsey Perry who ranks third in the nation and first in the OVC with 28.5 point per game after her 11th career double-double with 31 points and 11 rebounds in the win over Samford. Perry was rewarded for her play by picking up her ninth career OVC Player of the Week honor earlier this week. Seygan Robins has settled in nicely to her Skyhawk uniform, averaging 11.0 ppg while her 5.0 assist per game lead the OVC. Robins earned OVC Newcomer of the Week honors after setting career-highs with 16 points and six assists against the Bulldogs last time out.
Southeast Missouri (2-3, 0-0 OVC) is led by Preseason All-OVC guard Tesia Thompson who averages 18.6 points and 5.8 rebounds per game.
