
UT MARTIN WOMEN’S HOOPS OPENS FOUR-GAME ROAD TRIP WITH CONTEST AT EASTERN ILLINOIS

After a highly successful homestand, the University of Tennessee at Martin women's basketball team will look to continue building upon the team's six-game winning streak with a road matchup at Ohio Valley Conference foe Eastern Illinois on Thursday, Jan. 23. Tipoff from Lantz Arena is scheduled for 5:15 p.m. and will be broadcast on ESPN+.
The Skyhawks (10-7, 6-0 OVC) open a four-game road trip after playing its last four games at home. During the homestand, UT Martin shot 47.7 percent from the floor while outscoring its opponents by an average of 20 points per game. On the defensive end, the Skyhawks limited their opponents to just 61.2 points and 37.2 percent shooting clip from the field while forcing an average of 20.8 turnovers per game.
Highlighting the Skyhawks is junior forward Chelsey Perry who ranks as one of the nation's top offensive threats. After recently being named Madness National Mid-Major Player of the Week along with her sixth OVC Player of the Week honor this season, Perry ranks eighth nationally in blocks (54) and ninth in points per game (21.5). Last week, Perry averaged 27.5 points, 11.5 rebounds and 5.0 blocks in a pair of wins over Murray State and Austin Peay.
Eastern Illinois (10-7, 4-2 OVC) saw its three-game winning streak come to an end to Tennessee Tech last weekend, falling short 75-62 at home. The Panthers boast three players scoring in double figures, with Karle Pace (15.2 ppg, 3.6 rpg), Abby Wahl (12.1 ppg, 5.6 rpg) and Taylor Steele (10.5 ppg, 4.8 rpg) leading the way. In OVC play, Pace is averaging 20.5 points per game while shooting 47.7 percent from the field and 43.6 percent from beyond the arc.
Thursday's contest marks the 54th meeting between the two programs in a series which dates back to 1975. UT Martin boasts a 34-19 record in the series while the Skyhawks are 16-7 against the Panthers under the direction of head coach Kevin McMillan.
