
UT MARTIN TENNIS COMES UP SHORT IN SPRING DEBUT AGAINST MEMPHIS AND OLE MISS

OXFORD, Miss. – The University of Tennessee at Martin tennis team battled throughout its two matches today but ultimately fell to Memphis and Ole Miss by identical 4-0 scores at the William Galtney Indoor Center.
           
Competing in an official capacity for the first time since Nov. 2, the Skyhawks started the day against Memphis in a neutral-site matchup. UT Martin's No. 1 doubles team of Amelia Campbell and Daphne Pratt came close to a win but ultimately fell by a 7-5 margin. The Skyhawks were also represented in doubles by Aziza Aubin/Mizuki Sakurai at No. 2 (lost 6-2) and Sina Albersmeier/Jule Streif at No. 3 (lost 6-1).
           
In singles, Streif put up a fight at No. 3 but was defeated 6-2, 6-3. Aubin (6-1, 6-1) and Albersmeier (6-0, 6-0) came up short at No. 4 and No. 6, respectively. Pratt (3-6, 2-1 at No. 1), Campbell (5-7, 0-3 at No. 2) and Sakurai (3-6, 3-4) were also embroiled in close matchups but did not finish.
           
The Skyhawks turned right around to face Ole Miss next but couldn't find any luck on the Rebels' home court. Albersmeier and Streif were outlasted 6-2 at No. 3 doubles while the UT Martin No. 2 tandem of Aubin/Sakurai fell 6-0. Campbell and Pratt took a set at No. 1 but were unable to finish their matches.
           
Jillian Niedzialowski competed at No. 6 singles for the Skyhawks, falling by a 6-2, 6-0 margin. Aubin dropped a 6-1, 6-1 decision at No. 3 while Sakurai came up short (6-1, 6-0) at No. 4. Albersmeier took the first set by a 6-3 margin at No. 5 but would not finish along with Campbell at No. 1 (2-6, 0-3) and Streif at No. 2 (1-6, 1-2).
           
UT Martin will step away from official competition for the next three weeks before resuming its spring schedule in the Yellowhammer State, taking on Alabama (Feb. 8) and Alabama A&M (Feb. 9) on back-to-back days.
