CHARLESTON, Ill. – The University of Tennessee at Martin track and field programs opened the spring portion of the indoor track season at the John Craft Invitational hosted by Eastern Illinois on Saturday.
After officially opening the season with a meet back in December, the Skyhawks returned to action with their first of four meets leading up to the Ohio Valley Conference Indoor Championship late in February.
While the temperatures outside were near freezing, the competition season is just heating up for the Skyhawks. Facing numerous regional foes, UT Martin saw its athletes post several personal-records on Saturday afternoon.
Senior Bryana Maclin recorded a new PR in the women's 60m hurdles with a time of 9.89 seconds. Then on the men's side, sophomore Brady Fry won his heat in the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.41 seconds.
Dual-sport senior athlete David Little posted a nice Skyhawk debut with PRs in both the 60m dash and the long jump. In the 60m dash, Little finished in 7.1 seconds while recording a distance of 6.62m in the long jump.
Stepping up in distance, junior Jhon-Wes Walker claimed the Skyhawks lone event title of the meet in the men's 600m with a time of 1:25.16 for a PR of his own.
In the men's mile, senior Ryan Ford posted a strong performance with a second place finish at 4:17.56 while Tim Dye won his heat with a time of 4:29.9.
In the 3k distance, freshman Erica Fisher was impressive in her debut, finishing runner-up in the event at 10:05.45. On the men's side, junior Alex Schell posted a solid opener with a sixth place finish with a time of 8:48.62.
UT Martin will return to action at the Don DeNoon Invitational hosted by Southern Illinois on Friday, Jan. 24 and Saturday, Jan. 25.
