CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – The University of Tennessee at Martin volleyball team opened Ohio Valley Conference play this evening, falling by a 3-1 margin (13-25, 17-25, 25-22, 13-25) at Southeast Missouri.

After the Redhawks scored five of the first six points in the second set, UT Martin battled back to take a 10-9 lead as Addison Conley, Carrell and Rys each produced a service ace during a 9-4 surge. Southeast Missouri reeled off six unanswered points to reclaim the advantage before kills by Conley and Justine Walker closed the gap to 16-13. However, the Redhawks scored eight of the next 10 points to go on top by a 2-0 margin.
A Mackeviciute kill and Rys service ace began the third set as the Skyhawks never trailed in the stanza. With the Skyhawks holding a 23-22 lead, Walker came through with a kill and a Redhawk attack error followed – leading to a fourth set.
Conley delivered a pair of kills in UT Martin's first three points of the fourth set. With the score knotted at 4-all, Southeast Missouri went on a 7-1 run before a Reynolds kill momentarily sapped the Redhawk momentum. Southeast Missouri scored five of seven points quickly thereafter, opening up a 16-9 advantage. Hannah Phillips posted a kill to nudge the Skyhawks within six points but the Redhawks wrapped up the match on an 8-2 run.
