
SKYHAWK TENNIS TRAVELS TO MUSIC CITY FOR OVC TOURNAMENT SHOWDOWN AGAINST MURRAY STATE

MARTIN, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee at Martin opens the 2019 Ohio Valley Conference Tennis Championship tournament against No. 3 seed Murray State on Friday, April 26, as the quarterfinal matchup at Hadley Park in Nashville, Tenn. is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m.

The Skyhawks are 25-23 all-time in the OVC Tournament, including a 6-6 mark against the Racers. UT Martin owns a 22-21 record in the all-time series against Murray State, including a narrow 4-3 road setback earlier this season. In that match, the Skyhawks won the doubles point with victories by Asel Jumamukhambetova/Jemima Potter at No. 1 and Andrea Plantada/Amelia Campbell at No. 3. Jumamukhambetova and Campbell also added singles triumphs at No. 1 and No. 5, respectively.

UT Martin (5-11) earned the No. 6 seed in the tournament field after back-to-back wins in the final weekend of the regular season. The Skyhawks have qualified for the league's marquee championship event in 26 out of a possible 27 seasons since joining the OVC in 1992.

Potter has claimed four career OVC Tournament victories in her career, chalking up three doubles wins to go along with a singles victory. Plantada (two doubles wins), Jumamukhambetova (one doubles victory) and Campbell (one doubles win) additionally have generated OVC Tournament wins in a UT Martin uniform.

This season, Jumamukhambetova paces the Skyhawks with 18 singles wins while she is tied with Campbell for the team lead with five singles victories against conference opposition. In doubles, Campbell and Plantada have combined for team-highs of 16 victories and a 5-1 league record.

Murray State concluded the regular season with a 12-8 record and a 6-2 OVC mark. Sara Loncarevic has notched a team-best 24-4 singles mark and is one of three Racers – alongside Aarja Chakraborty and Amina Hadzic – to account for a 7-1 singles mark in league play. Loncarevic and Hadzic have generated a 21-7 doubles record that includes a 6-2 mark against OVC foes, ranking as team-highs in both categories.

The winner of the Skyhawks/Murray State quarterfinal advances to the semifinal round to face No. 2 Jacksonville State at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 27.
