NO. 7 SEED SKYHAWK MEN'S BASKETBALL TEAM READY FOR 13TH OVC TOURNAMENT APPEARANCE AGAINST EASTERN ILLINOIS

MARTIN, Tenn. – The No. 7 seeded University of Tennessee at Martin makes its 13th all-time appearance in the Ohio Valley Conference Basketball Championships when it takes on No. 6 Eastern Illinois in the tournament's first round on Wednesday, March 6. Tipoff from the Ford Center in Evansville, Ind. is set for 8:30 p.m.
This marks the second time in school history that the Skyhawks have entered the tournament as the No. 7 seed, as UT Martin also claimed the seventh spot in the field in its first-ever appearance in 2000. The Skyhawks have never played Eastern Illinois in the OVC Tournament.
UT Martin (11-18) punched its ticket into the league tournament after making a bit of history. The Skyhawks are one of only four teams in OVC history (first since Tennessee State in 2010) to qualify for the postseason tournament after starting the season 1-9 in league play. UT Martin is the only school in OVC history to start off 1-9 and and not be the lowest seed in the field.
The Skyhawks won five of their final eight games thanks in large part to the play of Quintin Dove and Craig Randall II. Dove was voted as an All-OVC second team honoree after averaging 14.1 points and 6.8 rebounds during that eight-game span. Randall, who did not play in either of the games against Eastern Illinois this year as he awaited an NCAA waiver appeal, became only the 11th player in league history to win the OVC Newcomer of the Week award three consecutive times.
Although Eastern Illinois (14-17) claimed both matchups this season, both games came down to the wire. In the OVC opener on Jan. 3, UT Martin led by six points with a minute left before falling 92-87 on the road in overtime. Exactly three weeks later in the Elam Center, the Skyhawks led by 12 points at the halftime break but the Panthers hit a go-ahead three-pointer with 13 seconds to go for a 66-64 win.
The backcourt trio of Preston Parks (14.5 points per game), Kevin Little (14.0) and Delfincko Bogan (13.5) guided UT Martin in the season series against Eastern Illinois. Josiah Wallace averaged 22.0 points per outing to pace the Panthers.
Fans can watch the game live on ESPN+ or tune in locally for the radio broadcast on WCMT 1410 AM/100.5 FM. Live stats and a link for all information related to the 2019 OVC Basketball Championships are located above.
