JACKSON, Tenn. – Redshirt junior Ross Redmont was responsible for the best single-round score in the 2019 Grover Page Classic today as he helped the University of Tennessee at Martin finish strong in the tournament held at the Jackson Country Club.
Redmont nabbed all-tournament honors today after carding a 67 (-5) in the third round, which was two strokes better than any score posted in the event. The Memphis, Tenn. native finished with a 216 (E) over 54 holes, finishing second in the field of 65 golfers (two strokes behind medalist Bracton Womack of Tennessee Tech).
Collectively, the Skyhawks shot a 291 (+3) this morning to bring their three-round total to 882 (+18). That score ranked second in the 10-team field, just six shots off team champion Tennessee Tech.
"Jackson Country Club is always a great host," UT Martin head coach Jerry Carpenter said. "This time of the year, the weather is iffy but overall the weather was good. It was a little wet but the golf course is in such great shape that it permits you to play a good game of golf. The last few days gave us a chance to improve – we had an opportunity to win the golf tournament but our putting was not very good today. We got some good competition in this tournament and that's what we needed."
Redmont's 67 included seven birdies as he finished first in the tournament in par-3 scoring (3.00, E) and in par-4 scoring (4.03, +1). Jack Story (74, +2) accounted for the next best score for the Skyhawks today and was followed by dual 75's out of Tate Chumley and Peyton Dix. Nick Wolf carded a 77 (+5) while Mason Chandler (73, +1) and Shelden Barina (78, +6) each competed as individuals.
For the tournament, all seven Skyhawks finished in the top-21 of the individual standings. Wolf produced the third top-10 finish of his young UT Martin career with a 223 (+7) while the trio of Story, Chandler and Chumley posted a 226 (+10) to finish in a tie for 16th. The 16th place finish was the highest in Chandler's career.
Dix and Barina each composed a three-round tally of 227 (+11) to tie for 21st. The Skyhawk pair of Dix and Story joined Redmont atop the tournament rankings in par-3 scoring (3.00, E).
UT Martin resumes its spring slate next week at the Bobby Nichols Intercollegiate hosted by Tennessee Tech. The tournament takes place on March 17-19 and will be played at the Sevierville Country Club in Sevierville, Tenn.
