MARTIN, Tenn. – Coming off one of its most impressive victories of the season, the University of Tennessee at Martin men's basketball squad will look to carry over that momentum against Ohio Valley Conference rival Tennessee Tech. Tipoff on Saturday, Feb. 9 will take place at approximately 3:30 p.m. (following the women's game) at the Kathleen and Tom Elam Center.
The Skyhawks (7-15, 2-9 OVC) clamped down on the defensive end during a 66-64 triumph over then-OVC leader Jacksonville State on Thursday evening. UT Martin trailed by six points with just under four minutes remaining but closed out the game on a 12-4 run with 10 of those points coming from junior guard Preston Parks. It marked the first time this season that the Skyhawks emerged victorious while scoring less than 75 points in a game.
Quintin Dove led the way for UT Martin in the win over Jacksonville State, dialing up a game-high 21 points on 10-of-13 shooting. He also swiped a career-high three steals in 26 minutes of play, accounting for his fifth game of at least 20 points this season.
The Skyhawks have won three of the last four matchups against Tennessee Tech, with their lone setback coming last season in Cookeville. Despite a 63-55 setback, Delfincko Bogan tallied a game-high 17 points while Fatodd Lewis added 13 points and nine rebounds for UT Martin.
Tennessee Tech (7-17, 3-8 OVC) is coming off a heartbreaking 71-66 overtime loss at Southeast Missouri on Thursday. In that game, the Golden Eagles led by double figures with 11:51 left to play but were outscored by a 27-15 margin to wrap up the game. Jr. Clay tallied 22 points while Courtney Alexander II chipped in 20 points and 13 rebounds for Tennessee Tech.
The Golden Eagles' top two scorers are freshmen in Clay (14.3 points per game) and Hunter Vick (10.7 points per game). In conference play, Tennessee Tech ranks atop the OVC in three-point field goal percentage defense (.308).
This game will be streamed live on ESPN+ and heard locally on WCMT 1410 AM/100.5 FM. Those two direct links - as well as a link for live stats - can be found at the top of the webpage.
