WACO, Texas – Sophomore Kenzie Mezrah, who helped lead the University of Tennessee at Martin to a victory over No. 6 Georgia, earned the National Collegiate Equestrian Association's Equifit Equitation on the Flat Rider of the Month honors for January.
Today's news comes a little over one week after Mezrah earned United Equestrian Conference Rider of the Week accolades for Equitation on the Flat.
Mezrah becomes only the third Skyhawk in school history to bring home a national Rider of the Month award, as the NCEA began its monthly recognition in 2013. She joins current teammates Noel Meadows (Reining, September 2018) and Abbie Hopkins (Equitation over Fences, October 2017) in that elite company.
The Tampa, Fla. native truly rose to the occasion on Jan. 24 against the visiting Bulldogs. Competing for the first time in an official capacity at the collegiate level, Mezrah put together an MOP performance that was good enough for 87 points. Her 15-point margin of victory was by far the largest in the event as she helped set the tone for UT Martin's 11-9 win.
As a result of the Skyhawks' triumph, UT Martin was voted into the NCEA's top-10 rankings yesterday. Mezrah and the No. 10 Skyhawks' next matchup is against No. 1 Auburn and South Dakota State on Friday, Feb. 8 in Auburn, Ala.
