WACO, Texas – The National Collegiate Equestrian Association unveiled its newest top-10 poll this afternoon and the University of Tennessee at Martin checked in at No. 10 in the Farnam team rankings.
Today's announcement marks the second time that the Skyhawks have appeared in the NCEA's top-10 poll this season, as UT Martin also came in at No. 10 in the preseason rankings that were released on Sept. 12.
The Skyhawks cracked the top-10 on the heels of a masterful 11-9 victory over then-No. 6 Georgia to start the spring season. Kenzie Mezrah (equitation on the flat), Tess Baumann (horsemanship) and Noel Meadows (reining) each chalked up MOP accolades as UT Martin knocked off a Southeastern Conference opponent for the first time in school history.
On the season, the Skyhawks have combined for 55 wins to go along with 17 MOP's. In the Hunter Seat discipline, UT Martin has generated 14 wins and six MOP's in equitation on the flat while producing 12 victories and three MOP's in equitation over fences. The Skyhawks' Western squad accounts for 12 wins and three MOP's in horsemanship and 17 victories (five MOP's) in reining.
Auburn claimed the top spot in today's poll and was followed by No. 2 Texas A&M, No. 3 SMU, No. 4 South Carolina, No. 5 Baylor, No. 6 TCU, No. 7 Oklahoma State, No. 8 Georgia and No. 9 Fresno State.
UT Martin returns to action this week with a matchup at No. 1 Auburn and South Dakota State on Friday, Feb. 8. The Skyhawks will also host Mississippi State in an exhibition at 10 a.m. on Sunday, Feb. 10 at the Ned McWherter Agricultural Pavilion.
