MARTIN, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee at Martin men's basketball squad begins a crucial week with a matchup against Ohio Valley Conference co-leader Belmont on Thursday, Feb. 28. Tipoff from the Kathleen and Tom Elam Center is set for 7:30 p.m., following the Skyhawk women's basketball game.
The Skyhawks (10-17, 5-11 OVC) are in a three-way tie for eighth place in the league standings going into the final week of the regular season. The top eight teams advance to the OVC Tournament, which will be held in Evansville, Ind. on March 6-9.
UT Martin has won four straight home games and boasts a 9-3 mark this season in the Elam Center. The Skyhawks have outscored their opponents by 8.8 points per home contest in 2018-19.
Redshirt junior guard Craig Randall II has been a big factor in UT Martin's recent success. The lefty has been named OVC Newcomer of the Week in back-to-back weeks and is coming off a career-best 33-point outburst at Austin Peay last Saturday. He became the first Skyhawk since All-OVC first teamer Jacolby Mobley to rack up 30 or more points against a conference opponent.
Quintin Dove - who scored a team-best 14 points in an 82-67 Belmont win on Feb. 2 in Nashville - is also playing some of his best basketball of the season. The junior forward has nabbed three double-doubles over the last five outings.
Winners of 11 straight games, the Bruins (23-4, 14-2 OVC) currently lead the country in assists per game (19.7) and also rank in the top-10 nationally in scoring offense (87.6 points per game, second), assist-to-turnover ratio (1.62, fourth) and field goal percentage (.500, seventh). Senior swingman Dylan Windler is the only NCAA Division I player to average at least 20 points, 10 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game.
On Monday, Nick Muszynski was named OVC Freshman of the Week for the sixth time this season. The 6-11 center, who leads the league with 2.1 blocks per contest, averaged 18.5 points per game in wins over Eastern Illinois and SIUE.
The game will be streamed live on ESPN+ and can also be heard through the radio airwaves on WCMT 1410 AM/100.5 FM. Those links, as well as a link for live stats, are located at the top of the webpage.
