WACO, Texas – The second set of National Collegiate Equestrian Association event rankings were released this afternoon and the University of Tennessee at Martin is prominently noted throughout the list.
The Skyhawks jumped up in three of the four event rankings from the initial set that was released on Nov. 21. UT Martin rose a combined six spots in the standings in equitation over fences, equitation on the flat and reining.
The Skyhawks' biggest jump in the rankings came in reining, where UT Martin is now ranked seventh after appearing at No. 10 in the first poll. The Skyhawks have compiled 20 victories and six MOP's in reining through nine competitions in 2018-19.
UT Martin improved by two spots in equitation over fences, as the Skyhawks are now sitting at No. 10. In that event, UT Martin boasts 15 wins to go along with four MOP's in 10 competitions this season.
In equitation on the flat, the Skyhawks moved up one spot to No. 7 in today's rankings. Over 10 meets this season, UT Martin has generated 17 victories and six MOP's in that event.
The Skyhawks remained at the No. 9 spot in horsemanship. UT Martin has contributed 13 wins and four MOP's over the course of nine meets so far during the 2018-19 campaign.
Starting last season, the NCEA national championship format was changed where four event titles are also included based off a head-to-head bracket format in each of the four events that comprise a head-to-head in-season meet. In addition to a national team championship and national discipline titles in Hunter Seat and Western, schools are now able to nab national championships in equitation over fences, equitation on the flat, horsemanship and reining.
Event rankings are determined at each head-to-head competition based on a variety of data points (win/loss, home/away, rank of opponent, etc.). The event rankings are based solely on the results from the single event in a head-to-head meet and may differ from the NCEA team rankings that are released every week throughout the season. UT Martin has been ranked No. 10 in each of the last three Farnam team rankings.
