WACO, Texas – The accolades continue to pile up for the No. 10 ranked University of Tennessee at Martin equestrian squad, as Kenzie Mezrah (equitation on the flat), Kelby Kane (equitation over fences), Tess Baumann (horsemanship) and Noel Meadows (reining) were each spotlighted as United Equestrian Conference Riders of the Month for January.
This group of four, who also swept the UEC Rider of the Week accolades in the same exact categories on Jan. 30, join Monika Zoromski (equitation over fences, October) as Skyhawks who have notched UEC Rider of the Month accolades during the 2018-19 campaign.
These four helped UT Martin to an 11-9 home win over then-No. 6 Georgia on Jan. 24, as the Skyhawks upended a Southeastern Conference opponent for the first time in school history.
A sophomore from Tampa, Fla., Mezrah accumulated 87 points in her season debut, racking up MOP accolades in equitation on the flat along the way. She defeated her head-to-head competitor by 15 points to cap off a commanding performance.
Kane completed her equitation over fences showing with 83 points, notching one of her team-best six victories on the season. The freshman out of Lexington, Ky. edged out her Georgia counterpart by two points, handing the Bulldogs their only setback in the event.
A Redmond, Wash. native, Baumann came away with the team-high second MOP of her sophomore season in horsemanship after generating 76.5 points. That effort was a season-best score out of five overall horsemanship rides for Baumann in 2018-19.
Meadows' season-best 72 points in reining helped complete UT Martin's come-from-behind victory. That performance was the second MOP and sixth head-to-head victory (both team-highs) for the sophomore from Staunton, Va.
Ranked No. 10 in today's version of the National Collegiate Equestrian Association poll, the Skyhawks resume its spring schedule on March 14 when it hosts Miami (Ohio) for an exhibition.
