WACO, Texas – The University of Tennessee at Martin received more national attention today as the Skyhawks boasted all four United Equestrian Conference Rider of the Week honorees in Abbie Hopkins (equitation on the flat), Monika Zoromski (equitation over fences), Lucy Eier (horsemanship) and Hannah McDonald (reining).
This marks the second time in three weeks and third time this season that UT Martin has swept through the UEC weekly awards. Overall, the Skyhawks boast 13 UEC Riders of the Week during the 2018-19 campaign.
The four honorees helped UT Martin earn a split in Auburn, Ala. last Friday, as the Skyhawks came away with a 10-5 triumph over South Dakota State before falling by a 17-0 margin to No. 1 Auburn.
A sophomore from Seekonk, Mass., Hopkins put together an average of 84.5 points in her two performances in equitation on the flat. She won her head-to-head matchup against South Dakota State by 13 points – her fourth victory this season in that event.
Zoromski secured an MOP performance in equitation over fences against South Dakota State, which marked her fourth win and team-best second MOP of the year in that event. The senior out of Saukville, Wis. tallied an average score of 73 points in the two competitions.
The UEC's top horsemanship award went to Eier, who earned her team-best fifth win and first MOP of the season with a 73-point effort against South Dakota State. The sophomore from New Carlisle, Ohio accrued an average score of 74 points in the event last week.
Hailing from Ridgefield, Wash. is McDonald, who was responsible for a 72.3 scoring average in reining over the two competitions. She collected the fifth victory of her sophomore season with 72.5 points in the victory over South Dakota State.
The No. 10 ranked Skyhawks are back in action next month when they host Miami (Ohio) for a home exhibition on Thursday, March 14.
