MARTIN, Tenn. – A formidable eight-game road swing for the University of Tennessee at Martin men's basketball team culminates in a nationally-televised matchup against No. 10 Baylor as part of the Battleground2k19 event in Houston, Texas. Tipoff on Wednesday, Dec. 18 is set for 9 p.m. on ESPNU.
The Skyhawks (3-6) are one of six teams to square off in an action-packed tripleheader in the inaugural Battleground2k19, which is played at the Toyota Center - the home of the NBA's Houston Rockets. Produced by the U-Sports Group, the event's backdrop is an "Athletes Against Abuse" initiative, which brings awareness to child abuse in our country.
This will be the third neutral-site game of the season for the Skyhawks, who split two games in Mexico during the Cancun Challenge on Nov. 26-27. This game also marks UT Martin's first visit to the state of Texas since a 72-64 win at UT Rio Grande Valley on Dec. 11, 2015.
The Skyhawks will look for its third win of a road trip that has seen the squad travel a combined 10,729 miles so far. UT Martin has played internationally and in six different states after opening the season with back-to-back home games.
Last Saturday, the Skyhawks battled but fell by a 91-72 margin at UNC Asheville. Parker Stewart (21 points, eight rebounds, career-high five assists) and Craig Randall II (20 points, career-best seven rebounds) guided a UT Martin squad that shot over 50 percent for the third time this season.
Baylor (8-1) enters the contest on a seven-game winning streak, including victories over a trio of ranked opponents (No. 17 Villanova, No. 11 Arizona, No. 18 Butler).
In their last outing on Dec. 10, the Bears never trailed before hanging on for a 53-52 triumph over Butler. Baylor led by as many as 16 points in the first half but the game came down to the wire, as a block on Butler's potential game-winning layup with 1.5 seconds left sealed the win.
