The University of Tennessee at Martin women's basketball team will continue its three-game homestand by hosting its annual Kid Game matchup against Lipscomb on Monday, Dec. 16. Tipoff from the Kathleen and Tom Elam Center is scheduled for 11 a.m. and will be broadcast on ESPN+.
The Skyhawks (3-5) will look to build upon the team's big home victory over Chattanooga in their last contest with another home matchup. UT Martin trailed by as much as 15 against Chattanooga before not only later taking the lead, but ultimately posting a 78-51 victory. The victory improved the Skyhawks to 105-24 at home since 2009.
UT Martin features back-to-back OVC Player of the Week Chelsey Perry who ranks second in the OVC by averaging 17.0 points per game while filling out the stat sheet with 7.1 rebounds and 2.6 blocks per game. Over the last five games, Perry has averaged 22.6 points per game. Sophomore forward Damiah Griffin is also coming off a career-best 19-point performance while tallying eight rebounds and enters the contest averaging 11.5 points and 5.9 rebounds.
UT Martin head coach Kevin McMillan is looking to notch another piece of history as his next win will mark his 200th career victory. With a 199-131 record in 11 seasons, McMillan would become just the sixth basketball coach in OVC history – men's or women's – to eclipse the 200-win mark, joining former coaches Larry Joe Inman (545), Dave Loos (420), Bill Worrell (408), Cal Luther (319) and E.A. Diddle (296).
Lipscomb (2-8) suffered a heartbreaking loss in its last outing, watching a 10-0 run to close out the final minutes go by the wayside as Belmont knocked down a three-pointer at the buzzer to drop a 69-68 decision. The Lady Bisons have faced five other OVC members including Jacksonville State (L, 65-63), Murray State (L, 67-57), Eastern Illinois (L, 66-56), Tennessee State (W, 74-64) and Belmont (69-68).
The Lady Bisons are led by first-year head coach Lauren Sumski who has posted a 37-29 record in three seasons overall.
