MARTIN, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee at Martin men's basketball squad will look to get back in the win column when it travels to UNC Asheville on Saturday, Dec. 14 for a 1 p.m. CST tip at Kimmel Arena.
The Skyhawks own a perfect 2-0 mark all-time against the Bulldogs as both games took place recently in the Kathleen and Tom Elam Center. UT Martin defeated UNC Asheville by an 89-75 margin in the 2017 CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament before Quintin Dove dialed up a game-high 22 points (on 10-of-12 shooting) in the Skyhawks' 87-70 triumph last December.
UT Martin (3-5) enters this contest ranking 12th nationally in fewest turnovers (11.0 per game). The Skyhawks also top the Ohio Valley Conference with a .746 free throw percentage so far in 2019-20.
Four UT Martin players average double-figures in the scoring column, paced by Dove's 18.1 points per game. Dove also grabs a team-high 7.0 rebounds per outing while three-time OVC Newcomer of the Week Parker Stewart tosses in 16.6 points per contest. Derek Hawthorne, Jr. (14.3 points per game) has scored in double digits in every game this season while Preseason All-OVC honoree Craig Randall II is averaging 19.0 points over his last two outings.
UNC Asheville (4-4) is coming off back-to-back road setbacks, narrowly falling 78-77 at Western Carolina on Dec. 7 before a slim 90-85 overtime loss at South Carolina State on Wednesday. North Carolina State transfer Lavar Betts, Jr. went off for a career-best 40 points against South Carolina State, sinking 14 of his 17 shot attempts and all nine of his free throw tries.
Coty Jude (21 points) and DeVon Baker (20 points) each provided a potent scoring punch against UT Martin last season. The Bulldogs have already matched their 2018-19 win total under second-year head coach Mike Morrell.
The game will be streamed live on ESPN+ while live stats will also be offered. For those links, see the top of the webpage.
