DANBURY, Conn. – The Eastern College Athletic Conference announced today that Devon Woods from the University of Tennessee at Martin has earned the title of ECAC Rider of the Month in horsemanship for the month of October.
This marks the second time this season that Woods has been recognized by the ECAC, as she was also spotlighted as the league's Rider of the Week in horsemanship on Oct. 15.
A junior from Escondido, Calif., Woods was a perfect 2-0 in her October competitions to help guide the Skyhawks to a pair of team victories. As a result, UT Martin jumped into the National Collegiate Equestrian Association top-10 rankings on Oct. 15 and have remained as the nation's 10th ranked team ever since.
Woods started her month with a season-best 74.5-point effort against South Dakota State, chalking up MOP accolades after defeating her competitor by 1.5 points. The following day in the Skyhawks' win over then-No. 10 Delaware State, she accrued 72.5 points to win her head-to-head matchup by three points, which was UT Martin's biggest margin of victory in that event.
On the season, Woods owns two of the Skyhawks' nine horsemanship victories and one of the squad's two MOP honors. She has pieced together a 71.9 season scoring average through four competitions.
No. 10 UT Martin wraps up its fall slate later this month, as the Skyhawks will head on the road to take on current No. 8 ranked South Carolina on Friday, Nov. 15.
