MARTIN, Tenn. – The National Collegiate Equestrian Association unveiled a pair of rankings this afternoon, as the University of Tennessee at Martin was included in both the Farnam top-10 team poll and the initial 2020 NCEA Championships event rankings.
In the final team rankings of the fall campaign, the Skyhawks remained at No. 10 behind No. 1 Auburn, No. 2 Oklahoma State, No. 3 Georgia, No. 4 Fresno State, No. 5 South Carolina, No. 6 Texas A&M, No. 7 SMU, No. 8 TCU and No. 9 Baylor. Today marked the ninth week that UT Martin had appeared in the national poll this season.
Additionally, the Skyhawks were highlighted in the first NCEA Championships event rankings of the season. The national championship format includes four event titles that will be included in the NCEA Championships. These event titles will be determined through a head-to-head bracket format in each of the four events that comprise a head-to-head in-season meet.
The final event rankings are determined by the NCEA Selection Committee and are released to the NCEA Championships. The final set of rankings will be used to seed teams for the Event Championship competitions in Waco, Texas on April 15-18.
Event rankings are determined at each head-to-head competition based on a variety of data points (win/loss, home/away, current rank of opponent). The event rankings differ from the NCEA team rankings that are released every week throughout the season, as they are based solely on the results from the single event in the head-to-head meet.
UT Martin was ranked in each of the Western discipline events as the Skyhawks were seeded eighth in horsemanship and 10th in reining.
In horsemanship, all five riders who have represented UT Martin have earned at least one victory. The Skyhawks have combined for 11 wins, two MOP's and a 71.7 scoring average in that event.
UT Martin has posted seven wins in reining as five different Skyhawks have notched at least one win. UT Martin has accounted for a pair of MOP's and a 62.5 scoring average so far during the 2019-20 season.
