
UT MARTIN WOMEN’S BASKETBALL TO MAKE HOME DEBUT ON THURSDAY AGAINST SAMFORD

The University of Tennessee at Martin women's basketball team will make its home debut in the friendly confines of the Kathleen and Tom Elam Center with a matchup against former Ohio Valley Conference rival and currently Southern Conference foe Samford on Thursday, Nov. 21. Tipoff from the Elam Center is scheduled for 6 p.m. on ESPN+.
The Skyhawks (0-3) are looking to pick up their first victory of the season after opening the year with a three-state road swing at Saint Louis, No. 10 Mississippi State and No. 23 Gonzaga. During road trip, UT Martin would shoot just 32.0 percent from the field while averaging 50.3 points per game.
In the team's most recent contest at No. 23 Gonzaga last Thursday, UT Martin dropped the road contest 78-55. The Skyhawks struggled to shoot from the floor at just a 36.6 percent clip while Damiah Griffin (15 points, five rebounds) and Chelsey Perry (13 points, eight rebounds) led the team offensively.
Griffin paces the team after scoring in double figures in all three contests while averaging 13.3 points and 6.0 rebounds per game. Joining in the action is junior Tamiah Stanford who averages 10.7 points and 2.6 assists per game.
Samford (1-4) enters the contest riding a four-game losing streak under first-year head coach Carley Kuhns. The Bulldogs are led offensively by the play of Sarah Myers who has averaged 15.2 points and 6.0 rebounds per game this season. Meanwhile, Charity Brown ranks second on the team with 9.8 points and 5.2 rebounds per game.
Thursday's contest marks the 17th meeting between the two squads in a series which dates back to 1997 between former OVC foes. UT Martin leads the all-time series by a mark of 10-6, including a 7-1 mark at home.
