
UT MARTIN MEN'S BASKETBALL BEGINS TREACHEROUS ROAD SWING WITH WEDNESDAY TILT AT WESTERN ILLINOIS

MARTIN, Tenn. – For the second straight season, the University of Tennessee at Martin men's basketball team faces the Western Illinois Fighting Leathernecks as the Skyhawks start a grueling road stretch on Wednesday, Nov. 13 in Macomb, Ill. Tipoff time from Western Hall is set for 7 p.m. on ESPN3.
This contest begins an eight-game, 50-day portion of the schedule where UT Martin (1-1) will play at road or neutral sites. The Skyhawks will travel approximately 14,491 miles this season to play its 29-game regular season slate.
UT Martin is 2-0 in the all-time series against Western Illinois but this will be the first time these two sides have squared off in Macomb. In last season's 92-90 triumph in the Kathleen and Tom Elam Center. In that game, the Skyhawks overcame double-digit deficit with less than four minutes to play as Derek Hawthorne, Jr. (15 points) and Quintin Dove (14 points) each collected high-scoring performances.
In its last outing, UT Martin held a three-point halftime advantage over ETSU before the visiting Buccaneers claimed a 92-75 win. Dove (game-highs of 25 points and 10 rebounds) paced the Skyhawks, who also saw Craig Randall II (17) and Hawthorne (15) reach double-figures in the scoring column against an ETSU squad that was ranked third in the CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major Poll.
Western Illinois (0-2) is looking for its first victory of the season after a season-opening 98-65 setback at Indiana and a heartbreaking 77-75 home loss to Stetson. In Saturday's game, the Fighting Leathernecks sank a go-ahead three-pointer with 10 seconds remaining but Stetson knocked down a halfcourt buzzer-beater for the game-winning shot.
Kobe Webster generated 21 points, seven assists and six rebounds against UT Martin last season while current leading scorer Zion Young (18.0 points per game) chipped in 10 points off the bench for Western Illinois.
