MARTIN, Tenn. – The National Collegiate Equestrian Association's Farnam top-10 rankings were unchanged this week as the University of Tennessee at Martin stayed at No. 10 in the poll.
Auburn sits at No. 1 and is followed by No. 2 Georgia, No. 3 Oklahoma State, No. 4 Texas A&M, No. 5 TCU, No. 6 SMU, No. 7 South Carolina, No. 8 Baylor, No. 9 Fresno State and the No. 10 Skyhawks.
UT Martin has been idle since a homestand sweep over South Dakota State (9-8) and former No. 10 Delaware State (11-9) on Oct. 10-11. Including a 13-11 exhibition road win at Miami (Ohio) on Oct. 4, the Skyhawks have emerged victorious in three straight decisions and have not lost since Sept. 20.
On the season, UT Martin boasts 25 wins and seven MOP's. The Skyhawks' most successful event has been horsemanship, where UT Martin has claimed nine victories (on a 72.0 scoring average) with two MOP's. Freshman Paige Benson leads the way with three wins (plus one MOP) while Bailey Newlin (team-best 73.9 scoring average) and Devon Woods (one MOP) have also made a difference so far this fall.
The Skyhawks account for seven head-to-head triumphs, a pair of MOP accolades and a 61.5 scoring average in reining. Tess Baumann tops the squad in scoring average (70.4) and victories (three) while joining Noel Meadows as the only UT Martin riders to secure MOP accolades thus far.
In flat, Abbie Hopkins's three wins and 75.8 scoring average rank as team-highs for the Skyhawks. Hopkins and Kelby Kane have both earned MOP status for a lineup that has produced six victories, two MOP's and a 73.7 scoring average.
Kane is responsible for UT Martin's lone MOP in fences while Savannah Metheny's 78.7 scoring average is the best on the squad. The trio of Kane, Hopkins and Grace Rogers have each tallied wins for a group that has collectively dialed up a 73.1 scoring average.
The Skyhawks return to action on Nov. 15 when they travel to take on current No. 7 South Carolina.
