
UT MARTIN WOMEN’S HOOPS LOOKS TO CRACK INTO OVC WIN COLUMN AT SOUTHEAST MISSOURI

The University of Tennessee at Martin women's basketball team will look to notch its first Ohio Valley Conference victory with a matchup against Southeast Missouri on Saturday, Jan. 5. Tipoff from the Show Me Center is scheduled for 2 p.m. and can be seen on ESPN+.
The Skyhawks (8-4, 0-1 OVC) fell short in their league opener on Thursday night, falling to Eastern Illinois 77-71 at Lantz Arena to snap a three-game winning streak. UT Martin trailed by as much as 16 points in the contest, as the nation's No. 8 scoring offense was held to just 27 points in the opening half of action. The Skyhawks would look to make a final move in the fourth quarter by scoring 27 points and cutting the margin to as close as four points before ultimately running out of gas.
UT Martin saw four different players score in double figures in the contest. Sophomore forward Maddie Waldrop tallied a career-high 15 points to lead the Skyhawks while tallying eight rebounds. The trio of senior Emanye Robertson, junior Aundrea Adams and freshman Brittni Moore also chipped in 11 points each to round out the quartet.
Head coach Kevin McMillan enters the contest with a 181-121 record in his 10th season at the helm of the Skyhawks. His 181 career victories are tied for fourth in OVC history while his next victory will move him into a tie for third place on the league's leaderboard. Southeast Missouri is coached by Rekha Patterson with a 48-55 record in her fourth season.
Southeast Missouri (6-6, 1-0 OVC) won its OVC opener with a 62-52 decision at SIUE on Thursday night. The Redhawks notched their first victory in Edwardsville since 2014 behind a game-high 22 points by Tesia Thompson while also tallying six rebounds. Thompson ranks as the team's leading scorer averaging 17.2 points per game while Adrianna Murphy ranks second with 11.4 ppg.
Saturday's matchup ranks as the 67th meeting between the two programs in series history with UT Martin holding a 36-30 advantage. The Skyhawks are 17-1 against the Redhawks under the direction of head coach Kevin McMillan after sweeping the three-game season series a year ago.
