
SKYHAWK WOMEN’S HOOPS TO CLOSE OUT MONTH WITH ROAD MATCHUP AT TENNESSEE STATE

The University of Tennessee at Martin women's basketball team will open a two-game road trip through Music City over the weekend, beginning with a matchup against Ohio Valley Conference foe Tennessee State on Thursday, Jan. 31. Tipoff from the Gentry Center is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
The Skyhawks (14-5, 6-2 OVC) are looking to put the finishing touches on a strong month in which the squad has posted a six victories in January. UT Martin enters the final days of the month sitting just one game out of first place in the league standings with a 6-2 conference mark. The Skyhawks have seen success through the early portion of the schedule due in large part to the eighth ranked scoring offense in the nation at 82.1 points her game while also ranking ninth nationally with 232 steals on the season.
UT Martin is led offensively by sophomore forward Chelsey Perry with 12.3 points per game while chipping in 40 blocks on the season – which already surpasses the 37 she tallied a year ago to notch a new freshman single-season record. Senior guard Emanye Robertson also averages in double figures with 10.5 points per game and ranks as the league's fifth active leading scorer with 1,043 career points. Meanwhile Brittni Moore recently notched her second OVC Freshman of the Week honor after notching a 22-point performance last week against Eastern Illinois.
Tennessee State enters the contest with an overall record of 2-18 along with a 2-6 mark in OVC play. The Lady Tigers just snapped a four-game losing streak their last time out after notching a road victory at Murray State by a score of 65-61. In the contest, sophomore Cebria Outlow played her first game in nearly a month and exploded in her return for 31 points. Overall, the Lady Tigers are led in scoring by Taylor Roberts (14.3 ppg) and Tia Wooten (12.2 ppg).
Thursday's games will serve as the 62nd meeting between the two programs in series history dating back to 1979. While UT Martin holds a 33-28 advantage in series history, the Skyhawks have controlled the series as of late, winning 10 of the last 13 matchups.
The game will be televised live on ESPN+.
