MARTIN, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee at Martin men's basketball team will try to exact revenge against the Morehead State Eagles in an Ohio Valley Conference showdown on Saturday, Jan. 19. Tipoff from Johnson Arena is set for 5:35 p.m. CST.
After the Skyhawks had won two straight matchups against Morehead State in the 2016 calendar year, the Eagles swept the season series in 2017-18. UT Martin narrowly fell by a 71-67 margin at home before dropping a 70-53 decision on the road in the final week of the regular season.
The Skyhawks (5-11, 0-5 OVC) are coming off a 97-73 setback at Eastern Kentucky on Thursday. In that game, UT Martin outrebounded the host Colonels (43-38) but could not overcome a season-high 23 turnovers. Jailen Gill (game-high 19 points), Fatodd Lewis (14), Kevin Little (14) and Preston Parks (13) each scored in double-figures for the Skyhawks.
Through five games of the OVC season, UT Martin ranks atop the league with 14.0 offensive rebounds per game. The Skyhawks nabbed 16 offensive boards at Eastern Kentucky on Thursday - their 12th game this season with double-digit totals on the offensive glass.
Morehead State (6-12, 2-3 OVC) is coming off a wild 73-69 home win over Southeast Missouri on Thursday. The Eagles led by a 30-28 margin at the halftime break but found themselves trailing by as many as 12 points with 11:26 to go. However, Lamontray Harris buried a trio of three-pointers during a 23-6 run as Morehead State held on for the victory.
Eagle leading scorer Jordan Walker is averaging 14.0 points over three career outings against UT Martin - including a 26-point outburst on Dec. 31, 2016. Meanwhile, Harris nearly averaged a double-double (14.0 points, 9.0 rebounds) against the Skyhawks last season on 58.8 percent shooting (10-of-17).
