SKYHAWKS POST NUMEROUS PRs AND EVENT TITLES AT EIU JOHN CRAFT INVITE

CHARLESTON, Ill. – With potential weather concerns from winter storm Harper projected to sweep through much of the country over the weekend, Saturday's scheduled John Craft Invite hosted by Eastern Illinois was moved up a day to avoid travel concerns. While the weather was still blustery outside, the Skyhawks saw several strong performances on the indoor track on Friday.
Despite the altered schedule, UT Martin came prepared to compete against some of the area's best. Left in their wake were several personal records posted and three event titles both the men's and women's 600m along with the men's 3k.
Highlighted on the day were several performances in the women's 60m hurdles. Freshman Anndrea Chester posted a top-10 finish with a time of 9.50 while junior Bryana Maclin equaled her time at 9.50 seconds. Not far behind was another freshman in the form of Addison Taylor at 10.17 second. All three times served as new PRs.
With the hurdles stripped away from the track, a pair of freshmen notched strong outings in the 60m dash to earn spots in the final. Joy Abbott paced the group with a time of 7.97 seconds in the final while Chandler Robinson was close behind at 7.98 seconds. Senior Vashawnda Smith also scored in the final with a time of 8.06 seconds.
The Skyhawks would leave their mark in the back-to-back events in the women's and men's 600m run. Junior Agok Ayuen stole the show in the women's race to finish first with a time of 1.44.17. Then in the men's race, senior standout Jonathan Conley made it a clean sweep by winning the event with a time of 1:23.18.
In one of the final events of the day, junior newcomer Oisin O'Gailin won the men's 3k run with a time of 8:30.72 for a new PR in his first race of the indoor season. O'Gailin was joined toward the top with the performance of sophomore Jhon-Wes Walker who won his heat with a solid kick running up in distance with a time of 9:12.20.
UT Martin will return to action on Friday, Feb. 1 through Saturday, Feb. 2 at the Don DeNoon Invitational hosted by Southern Illinois.
