
SKYHAWK WOMEN’S HOOPS TO OPEN OHIO VALLEY CONFERENCE PLAY AT EASTERN ILLINOIS

The University of Tennessee at Martin women's basketball team will look to continue its strong play as of late with a trip to Ohio Valley Conference foe Eastern Illinois to open league play on Thursday, Jan. 3. Tipoff from Lantz Arena is scheduled for 5:15 p.m.
UT Martin will open its 27th season in the OVC on Thursday night, compiling a 230-214 record in league competition while compiling five titles – which ranks third in history. Since head coach Kevin McMillan took the helm prior to the 2009-10 season, the Skyhawks have posted a 114-36 record in OVC play while winning four league titles. McMillan enters Thursday's matchup currently tied for fourth in league history with 181 career victories in 10 seasons.
The Skyhawks (8-3, 0-0 OVC) enter the conference slate after a promising non-conference schedule in which the squad rattled off eight wins – ranking as the best start prior to league play in program history. UT Martin boasts a high-powered scoring offense which ranks seventh nationally by averaging 85.5 points per game after tallying back-to-back 100-point performances against UAH and Mississippi Valley State.
In the team's most recent outing, UT Martin posted a 59-point margin of victory which ranked as the largest margin of victory against a Division I foe in school history. The Skyhawks posted another modern-day record when seven different players scored in double figures while tying the school mark with 12 blocks against Mississippi Valley State.
Eastern Illinois enters league play with a 6-5 mark on the season while winning back-to-back matchups against Indiana State and Eureka College to wrap up non-conference play. The Panthers are led offensively by the play of sophomore guard Karle Pace who averages 15.2 points per game. Fellow sophomore Taylor Steele ranks as the team's other top scoring threat at 11.0 points per game.
Thursday's matchup marks the 52nd matchup between the two programs in series history with UT Martin holding a 33-18 advantage. The Skyhawks have won 12 of the last 13 meetings against the Panthers dating back to the 2012-13 season.
