UT MARTIN TENNIS GOES UNDEFEATED DURING FUN-FILLED SKYHAWK FALL INVITE

MARTIN, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee at Martin tennis squad swept through the Skyhawk Fall Invite this weekend, going 29-0 in a perfect team performance against Southern Indiana and Martin Methodist.

UT Martin won all 20 singles decisions in the tournament, as seven Skyhawks combined to concede only a single set throughout the weekend. UT Martin also won all nine doubles matchups in the tournament, as four different duos brought home victories.

The tournament began on Friday evening, as the Skyhawks and Southern Indiana played in front of an energetic crowd of 268 fans. Asel Jumamukhambetova (6-2, 6-1), Jemima Potter (6-0, 7-6), Mizuki Sakurai (6-0, 6-1), Andrea Plantada (6-2, 6-2), Daphne Pratt (6-2, 6-2), Jule Streif (6-0, 6-2) and Amelia Campbell (6-0, 6-1) each claimed convincing singles wins.

In the doubles competition nightcap, the team of Jumamukhambetova/Potter earned an 8-1 win while Plantada/Campbell (8-0) and Sakurai/Pratt (8-2) also posted dominant victories.

UT Martin played Southern Indiana in singles to start off Saturday's action, posting seven more victories. Potter earned a 6-4, 6-2 win while Jumamukhambetova accounted for a 6-0, 6-2 victory. Plantada posted a 6-4, 6-3 win and Pratt dialed up a 6-1, 6-0 victory. Sakurai (6-1, 7-5), Campbell (6-0, 6-2) and Jule Streif (6-1, 6-2) also extended the Skyhawks' perfect streak.

The day continued with back-to-back doubles competitions for UT Martin against Martin Methodist and Southern Indiana. In the opening matchup against Martin Methodist, each of the three Skyhawk teams (Jumamukhambetova/Potter, Plantada/Campbell and Sakurai/Pratt) generated 8-1 triumphs. Against Southern Indiana, Plantada and Campbell dialed up an 8-6 win while Sakurai/Pratt (8-5) and Streif/Jumamukhambetova (8-2) also won their decisions.

UT Martin rounded out its tournament participation on Saturday with a singles matchup against Martin Methodist. Jumamukhambetova (6-3, 6-4), Pratt (6-2, 5-7, 10-5), Sakurai (6-1, 6-0), Plantada (6-4, 6-3), Streif (6-1, 6-0) and Campbell (6-0, 6-0) capped off the Skyhawks' highly successful weekend.

The 2018 fall season resumes on Oct. 11-14 when UT Martin battles against some of the top teams in the region at the ITA Regionals in Murfreesboro, Tenn.
