MARTIN, Tenn. – For the first time since 1981, the University of Tennessee at Martin men's basketball team hosts the Chattanooga Mocs as the system rivals square off on Tuesday, Dec. 18 at the Kathleen and Tom Elam Center. Tipoff time is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
The series between these two schools was rekindled last season, as the Mocs came away with a narrow 66-63 win in Chattanooga. Fatodd Lewis posted 11 points and a team-best seven rebounds to guide UT Martin in the first matchup between the Skyhawks and Mocs in nearly 35 years.
UT Martin (4-4) displayed a high-flying offense in its last outing, a 108-79 triumph over Brescia on Saturday. Derek Hawthorne, Jr. corralled career-highs of 24 points and 10 rebounds while Lewis contributed 23 points and nine rebounds to lead the Skyhawks, who shot a season-high 58.8 percent (40-of-68) from the field.
With that win, UT Martin improved to a perfect 4-0 at home during the 2018-19 campaign. This is just the second time in the last 13 seasons that the Skyhawks have started a season with four consecutive home victories.
So far this season, UT Martin has accounted for an extremely balanced offense. The Skyhawks boast six players who average double-figures in the scoring column while six different UT Martin players have led the team in scoring through the season's first eight games.
Chattanooga (5-7) is coming off a tough 90-70 setback at Ole Miss on Sunday. In that game, the Mocs led by a 39-37 margin at the halftime break before the host Rebels connected on 63.3 percent (19-for-30) of its field goal tries over the final 20 minutes.
David Jean-Baptiste recorded a team-high 15 points while Jonathan Scott and Ramon Vila chipped in 14 and 10 points, respectively. Chattanooga shot 52.4 percent (11-of-21) from three-point range but was hampered by 22 turnovers.
The game will be streamed live on ESPN+ while the radio broadcast can be heard locally on WCMT 1410 AM/100.5 FM. Those links - in addition to a link for live stats - are located at the top of the webpage.
