MARTIN, Tenn. – Following a week of final exams for the fall semester, the University of Tennessee at Martin men's basketball team returns to the hardwood for a nonconference matchup against Brescia at the Kathleen and Tom Elam Center. Tipoff on Saturday, Dec. 15 is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
Saturday's contest serves as a "Stuttering Awareness Game". Each member of the Skyhawk coaching staff will wear a lapel pin that was graciously donated by the National Stuttering Association.
UT Martin (3-4) looks to stay undefeated at home in 2018-19, as the Skyhawks have won each of their first three games in the Elam Center by an average of 17.3 points per game. UT Martin is averaging 90 points per contest while shooting an even 40 percent (30-of-75) from three-point range at home so far this season.
Last week, the Skyhawks fell in a pair of tough road games against stiff competition (87-74 at Tulane, 80-62 at ETSU). Preston Parks led the team with 13.5 points per contest while Derek Hawthorne, Jr. (team-highs of 6.5 rebounds and 3.5 steals per game) also paced UT Martin in the two games.
This marks the third all-time meeting against Brescia, a NAIA squad out of Owensboro, Ky. The Skyhawks defeated the Bearcats by a 97-44 margin on Dec. 18, 2008 and also by a 67-64 margin on Feb. 8, 1999 with both games being played at the Elam Center.
Brescia (6-7) is coming off an 88-87 overtime road victory against Midway last Saturday. Dillon Geralds converted a four-point play with 6.1 seconds remaining in regulation to send the game into overtime before Darion Morrow knocked down a pair of go-ahead free throws with 0.6 seconds left to lock down the win.
Tristen Murray dialed up a career-high 35 points (including six 3-pointers) while Kayode Daboiku nearly accumulated a triple-double (10 points, nine rebounds, nine assists) to help guide the Bearcats to the conference win.
The game will be streamed live on ESPN+ and fans can also tune in to the radio broadcast locally on WCMT 1410 AM/100.5 FM. Links for those and a link to live stats can be found at the top of the webpage.
